Tenerife

Visitors have been flocking to this sunny island since the 1950s. The largest of all the Canary Islands, the main tourist areas of Puerto de la Cruz and Los Cristianos in the north; and Playa de las Americas in the south, offer a multitude of bars, shops, cafes and restaurants – enough to delight anyone looking for a cheap holiday to Tenerife.

Mount Teide is of course one of the most visited landmarks on the island, although with an abundance of watersports facilities, themeparks, golf courses and superb beaches here, you’re guaranteed never to be bored.

Playa de las Americas is a purpose-built resort, established in the 1960s. A lively region, the emphasis here is firmly on the nightlife and there are any number of pubs and nightclubs.

Not far from Playa de las Americas is Costa Adeje. Another purpose-built community, Costa Adeje is somewhat quieter, with its unique glittering black beaches of volcanic sand – typical of the Canaries’ coastlines. The waters around the resort however, are crystal clear, offering superb conditions for diving.

Los Cristianos on the other hand, has opted to make its beaches more artificial, shipping in sand from the Sahara Desert, only a short distance away. Typically the destination of choice for those looking for a more relaxing holiday, there is nevertheless enough to keep everyone entertained.

Finally, Puerto de la Cruz, whilst more of a working town rather than a resort, still has a great beach and gives visitors to chance to see glimpses of the old town, with cobbled streets and a thriving fishing port.
