Barbados

One of the most frequently visited islands in the Caribbean, Barbados, which lies close to St Lucia, is an eclectic mix of old and modern. With its rum shops, carts and shacks standing alongside vast, sprawling houses, it certainly makes for an interesting vista.

For a livelier last minute holiday deal, why not consider St Lawrence Gap? A designated beach resort located on the south coast of the island, it is jam packed with shops, restaurants and bars. It is renowned for its buzzing nightlife, with plenty of bars and nightclubs, whilst divers are catered for, with its reef-protected areas, and calm waters.

The capital of Barbados, Bridgetown, is a busy working port, so you can be sure of some excellent sea food restaurants here. Retaining much of its history, there are a number of historical monuments (such as the statue of Lord Nelson, which dates back nearly two hundred years) and sites to explore.

Christ Church on the other hand, is one of the quieter regions, located on the south coast of the island. One of its principal fishing sites, it nevertheless has been relatively undiscovered by tourism as yet, making it very peaceful. Close to forests, it allows you a unique opportunity to get closer to the island’s wildlife, including monkeys. However, there are also a number of shops close by, to ensure that your credit card will get some use.

St James, to the west of the island, is definitely a place for those looking to be seen. Mansions, luxury hotels and beaches line the coast, whilst the boutiques, clubs and restaurants are often full of well-known celebrities. However, don’t be fooled. There are always late deals to be had to St James, meaning that even if you’re not a showbiz personality, you can still mingle with the rich and famous.
